Defibrillators in sheltered housing schemes

We’re pleased to announce that we’re supplying defibrillators to 24 sheltered housing schemes. These devices play a vital role in responding to sudden cardiac arrest by helping to maintain a person’s chance of survival until emergency services arrive. Every minute without defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by around 10%.

The defibrillators are lightweight and include a large colour screen that provides clear, step-by-step instructions using simple animations and written prompts, alongside voice guidance. This helps the person using it by allowing them to follow what they hear and/or what they see.

Members of our Community, Community Investment, Later Living, and Garden Maintenance Teams have been trained by St. John’s Ambulance to use the defibrillators. They’ve also learned other key emergency skills, including how to manage severe blood loss. With these team members regularly out in the community, these life-saving skills could make a real difference when emergencies occur.

We plan to offer defibrillator training to interested sheltered housing residents in the future. This initiative is an important step in helping improve outcomes for our customers and communities.
